Help Make Our School Grounds More Beautiful

Spring Planting Day Saturday, June 10, 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
BBQ/refreshments for volunteers once the work is done.
Equipment (helpful to bring but not required): work gloves, shovel.

Planting plan legend: green = saskatoon berry; blue = blue berry; pink = raspberry and purple = haskaps.)

As some of you may know the School Council and specifically the Greening Committee have been working hard for the past 1.5 years on bringing our vision for the transformation of the Gowling school grounds to light.

We have great news! We have recently been awarded a grant through Tree Canada with partnership from Telus to plant edible tress on the school grounds. These edible trees will be planted in the Nature Study Area (which you may have noticed has already been marked off as a NO MOW area).

We would like to extend you all an invitation to help in this monumental transformation by attending our Planting Event! June 10th from 9:30am-1:30pm we will be rallying volunteers from the community (including a number from our sponsor Telus) to help with this immense undertaking. The day will consist of planting the raspberry, blueberry, and service berry bushes as well as creating a mulch path through the Nature Study Area. We will also give some love to the trees that were planted last year by mulching around the bottom and installing watering bags. There will be a thank you bbq and refreshments for all the volunteers!

Our goal for the Outdoor Classroom and Nature Study area is not only to beautify Gowling but to also provide your children with some wonderfully educational areas that can enrich their curriculum and help the students learn in as many different ways as possible. We will truly measure our success by how this space can/will be used. And it is for this reason we are hoping you will engage with us to create a space you will be excited to have your children use in their everyday experience at W.E. Gowling.

We sincerely hope that you will come out to support the school and the community in creating a more beautiful Gowling!

Thank you!
The W.E. Gowling Greening Committee!
